IoT Woodstove.

A signal from the stove

Temperature sensing, a Raspberry Pi, and a familiar household interface.

Useful information, somewhere useful

A woodstove provides plenty of feedback when you are standing beside it. I wanted temperature information and alerts in a familiar household interface. A high-temperature thermocouple, Raspberry Pi, and Homebridge brought stove monitoring into Apple HomeKit.

Connect what is already there

The system reports temperature and supports alerts for overheating and refueling timing. This is the kind of practical making I enjoy: a sensor, an existing platform, and some adapted software becoming useful together. The implementation builds on Homebridge and upstream code rather than starting every piece from scratch. The immersion circulator is another way I’ve put a temperature sensor to work.
