An invitation, drawn together
Maggie and Blair’s save-the-date became a small performance on Charlottesville’s Free Speech Wall. I captured the couple drawing their invitation in stop motion, turning the making of the message into the film itself. The wall gave a personal announcement a very public setting.
Let the process tell the story
A finished invitation tells you when and where. Watching it take shape gives you something else: the couple doing something together. The frame-by-frame treatment brings their drawing into motion, with the invitation emerging through the action rather than arriving as a title card.
A small film that traveled
The video was featured by Glamour, Brides.com, and Breathe Magazine. Glamour’s December 2010 article links the film and credits Squid and Beard. What began as an invitation for one wedding found an audience well beyond its guest list.
