What does a good life look like?
I created a timelapse animation for The Center for a New American Dream, working with Anthony Maughan’s illustrations and psychologist Tim Kasser’s ideas. The subject was a familiar promise: that buying more will make life better. The film asks what that promise costs people and the environment.
Give an argument a visual rhythm
The animation carries the ideas through illustrated, stop-motion-style sequences. Images give a discussion of values something concrete to follow, moving from the pressures of consumer culture toward a life with more emphasis on community, meaning, and sustainability. My contribution was the animation; Maughan’s illustration supplies the visual language.
An audience beyond the commission
The video surpassed one million views. It brought a piece of social-impact communication to an audience far beyond a single presentation, with animation helping make an abstract argument approachable.
